Those who do not know about Chromebooks, tell them; This is a cheap laptop from Google that runs on the Google Chrome operating system. Today, many of our computing needs are met by just an internet browser. If I say about myself again, then open the Google Chrome browser on the computer and start blogging, and nothing else is needed most of the time.
So if you are such a user, the computer only uses the Internet, writing, and some basic applications, then there is no need to buy a Windows laptop by spending more money. Chromebooks are not very highly configured computers, the Chrome operating system can run comfortably on any normal or old computer. So how about turning your old Windows computer or laptop into a Chromebook?
I will discuss this topic in this post; How to turn your old laptop or any computer into a Chromebook? So let's get started
Old Laptop to Chromebook
There is no requirement for you to buy a brand new Chromebook to enjoy Chrome OS. Maybe you have an old Windows laptop or computer in your house, which runs Windows XP very hard. You can not use modern Windows there, because its configuration is very low.
And running Windows XP is also a huge risk, at least after the Winery ransomware attack, you should have learned so much. However, in this case you can install Chrome OS on your old computer and make it a complete Chromebook.
Google's Chrome OS is made from an open source project called Chromium OS. However, Google never provides the build of the original Chrome OS, but a company called Never ware has created another open source OS on the Chromium OS project, which is called Cloud Ready, and by installing it you can get all the features of Chrome OS.
Never ware Cloud Ready has a free version for home use, which can run on old computers without any problems. However, if Google adds any extra features to Chrome OS, you will not get them from Cloud Ready. Although this is not the version of the original Chrome OS made by Google, it is still the best option to run Chromium OS on your old laptop. Like Linux districts, you can use this OS as a portable flash drive. If you like to use, you can also install it permanently on the computer.
Step by Step Setup Guide
First you will need an 8 GB or 16 GB pen drive. Now you have to download Cloud Ready OS from the official website of Never ware. You can download OS files on both 32-bit or 64-bit architectures.
Select OS architecture as your processor architecture. Now you have to make the USB pen drive bootable, so that the OS can be set up on the computer through it.
First, find the downloaded file and extract the archive file, extract the .bin file in it.
Now to create a Cloud Ready USB installer, you will need to download and install ExtremeBook Recovery Utility in the Chrome browser. In general, open Chrome on any Windows computer and install Tha Chromebook Recovery utility from the Chrome Straw.
You will see the recovery app from the Google Chrome Apps option, now put it on your USB computer and then run the RockPoor app.
Start the setup process by clicking the blue "Get Started" button, click on the gear icon at the top and choose the Local Image option. Now extract . bin show the file.
The process of creating USB will start immediately. When the process is complete, unplug the USB drive from the computer, and plug it into the computer on which you want to install Chromium OS.
Now turn on the computer and go to the BIOS menu and select the bootable USB. Your computer will boot from USB when it is turned on. First, your Cloud Ready install process will begin.
First you will have a network configuration page, however, there is no need to configure anything here.
Now if you move the mouse over the clock at the bottom right of the screen, a menu will appear, the first option of which is "Install CloudReady" diameter, click there. Now a window will appear in front of you and a button will be provided to start the install process.
Now just click on the install cloud ready button and half the work is done. Yes, you can also install Cloud Ready on Dual boot. Dual boot means you can use Cloud Ready OS as well as Windows, or you can just install Cloud Ready if you want, but it will delete the current installed operating system.
If your computer is a little too old, then I would say that it would be best for you to choose Standalone Mood. Once the install mode is chosen, the OS can take 15-20 minutes to install. After the installation is complete, your machine will take auto restart, now take out the USB from the computer.
After the computer is turned on, you will need to complete some setup to get your Chromebook ready. Here you can configure the network, if you have updates, you can also apply it.
Then the login screen will come to you. Google ID or Gmail address must be entered as login information. And boom. Your Chromebook is ready.
The Chromebook created through this process must not be called a real Chromebook, because Google does not share the install file of their original Chrome OS. You may not get such a good battery backup on your laptop like Chromebook.
But if you want to run something like Chromebook on your old computer or any computer, then it will be better for you to use it. If you have any problem, you can let me know by commenting below.
